I’ve found that the best place to start is at the beginning. Well here we are, RV beginners. This is the beginning of the plan that started with a dream which then lead to a desire. Desire then lead to a plan, and that plan will one day morph into reality. My dream is to one day live life on the road and to wander around the country seeing nature and meeting new people.

With that in mind, I started this blog. In all my 22 years in the U.S. Navy, I learned that documentation is a must. If it’s not documented, it didn’t happen. This is also the reason why many “Sea Stories” are not written down and just told verbally. What happens on Liberty, stays on Liberty. That is not the purpose for this blog. My intention is to document the journey ahead.

Introduction

Now before I get too far into this, I have to introduce you to my lovely wife, Chris. She has sacrificed as much or even more than a military member. I knowingly signed up for my military career, while she signed up to be with me. The irony of that is that for months on end, many times over, we had to be apart. I went on deployments which were difficult, but she manned the home front and had no less difficulty and hardship running our household and raising our kids. We have stayed together for 37 years. Our kids are grown and raising their own now, so our grandchildren are now part of the motivation for pursuing the dream.

During “our” time on active duty we rarely had the opportunity to go back to our home town, Lincoln Nebraska. We were always stationed on the East coast, and the cost of flying was prohibitive. The time driving was also prohibitive. Our kids grew up not spending much time at all around any sort of family other than an occasional visit here and there over the years.

Why do we want to do this?

One of the main reasons we want to travel and spend lots of time in an RV is so that we can go and visit our kids and grandkids and not put a financial burden on any of them. Two of our kids are active duty so they move around often while one lives in central North Carolina. Being mobile is an advantage in this situation. We both also like traveling. We also like camping, but we have always camped in a tent, and that has become too difficult to do these days, so we are graduating to an RV. My definition of spending lots of time in an RV is not the same as Chris’s.

I want to do full time while she still wants to maintain a sticks & bricks residence. We do want to have an identity for ourselves and the RV so we kicked around a few ideas, and Chris suggested No Fixed Address…so here we are, as RV beginners!!

P.S. I speak acronym-ese fluently as any military member does, so I apologize ahead of time if I slip and use an acronym or phrase you don’t understand. Leave a comment and I will clarify.
